@ RedBullWife:...@ CI-Roller Dude: You crack me up!

@ RedBullWife: I'm a sucker for the first-person stuff myself. Newly in the I-wish-I-had-time-to-read-more-widely list is this recent discovery: A memoir from a Vietnam-era Medal-of-Honor recipient that delivers gripping stories with humor and without curse-words. (Two nice-to-have factors, in my humble opinion.)

@ Riley: As a FB buddy just reminded me, I owe you and the rest of the RBR readership a list of titles describing more of the political/cultural/historical landscape of Afghanistan. My shot-group here was more in the direction of memoir/first-person experience.

Given your own role as a citizen-soldier, I need to point out Glory, Guts and Glitter blog at: http://www.glorygutsandglitter.com/ I've talked to the writer there a couple of times via e-mail, and she's Officially Good People. And a Marine. (Which, I know, is Semper redundant.) If you zap her mail, be sure to tell her Sherpa says "hey."

Also--I make this connection because of your geographic as well as your topical proximity--you might check out the book "Powder," a collection of essays from women veterans that's published by a Tucson, AZ outfit:

http://www.amazon.com/Powder-Writing-Women-Ranks-Vietnam/dp/1888553251/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1293053400&sr=1-1

Thanks for reading Red Bull Rising!Charlie Sherpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16791563886675329245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991024443488082637.post-39830690905444035482010-12-22T12:59:38.597-06:002010-12-22T12:59:38.597-06:00Wow, I haven't read any of those books! I have been turned off by a couple of pretty lame 'memoirs,' so it's good to have a couple of pre-screened recommendations. :)RedBullWifenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5991024443488082637.post-31348840891104128102010-12-21T14:46:33.921-06:002010-12-21T14:46:33.921-06:00I'd suggest the commanders read the book about...I'd suggest the commanders read the book about the "Manhatten Project".
It gives a really good idea on what they should do with that country...first make it all flat, then kill all the assholes.CI-Roller Dudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10850472230525879415noreply@blogger.com
