The following groups share similar objectives to that of the Red Bull Rising blog: To remember, support, and celebrate citizen-soldiers past and present, as well as their families. Please visit their respective websites for more information.


Families of Iowa's Fallen (F.I.F.)

What it is: Memorial fund; program facilitator and promoter
What it does: Supports the families of the Iowa National Guardsmen who were killed or gravely injured during the 2010-2011 deployment of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division to Afghanistan. These include the families of U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Terryl Pasker, Staff Sgt. James Justice, Sgt. Brent Maher, and Spc. Donald Nichols.

Iowa Remembers, Inc.

What it is: 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
What it does: Iowa Remembers helps underwrite a statewide annual retreat for families of Iowans who have died as the result of service in Iraq and Afghanistan. The organization raises funds primarily through proceeds from an annual 5k run/walk event in Central Iowa. The "Iowa Remembrance Run" was first held Aug. 22, 2010. The most recent event was held Sept. 18, 2011. Next year's Remembrance Run will be held Sep. 30, 2012 at Sandpiper Recreation Area at Saylorville Lake, near Des Moines, Iowa.

Paws & Effect

What it is: 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
What it does: Trains psychiatric service and therapy animals for use by Midwestern military veterans and others diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.). In 2011, the organization named a litter of black labrador puppies in honor of the 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division. Paws & Effect raises funds through donations and the conduct of agility dog trials.

What it is: 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
What it does: Perpetuates the camaraderie of those who have served with the 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division since 1917. Underwrites and supports efforts to memorialize and preserve the organization's history. In addition to an at-large national membership, maintains local chapters in Iowa, Minnesota, and East Coast states. Conducted the 64th Annual reunion in the Des Moines, Iowa, metro area Sept. 9-10, 2011. Dates for the next event are Sept. 14-16, 2012.
